Dancing in the Streets!
Dancing in the streets is just my way of saying Praise the Lord!
Zephaniah 3:17 in the NIV says this: “The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”
and in the God’s Word translation it is put this way… “The Lord your God is with you. He is a hero who saves you.He happily rejoices over you, renews you with his love, and celebrates over you with shouts of joy.”
I looked up the word for rejoice or joy (KJV says: “he will joy over thee with singing”.) and here is the definition straight from Strong’s
1523. giyl, gheel; or (by permutation) guwl, gool; a primitive root; properly, to spin round (under the influence of any violent emotion), i.e. usually rejoice, or (as cringing) fear:—be glad, joy, be joyful, rejoice..
It doesn’t say anything about streets, but it sure sounds like God dances over us in song.
I recently challenged my friend Heather to begin a list on her blog that includes praises for what God has been doing in her life. I am beginning to put together a list of my praises and I am challenging you the reader to count your blessings and praise the Lord along with me. Let’s praise Him for all He has done, all He is doing and all He will yet do. He is worthy of our praise! Keep those dancing shoes handy.
5/10/80 – God blessed me with a beautiful baby girl! God used this precious life to give me hope as I went through a painful divorce process.
12/4/1981 – After 26 years of sinful selfish living, I was adopted into God’s family by faith in Jesus Christ. I still marvel over the fact that God loves me!
12/4/1982 – I married my husband Bob on my first anniversary of knowing God. Now I have two wonderful anniversaries to celebrate each December 4th.
12/8/1983 – Bob adopted my daughter, after a year of process.
6/22/1985 – God brought another precious beautiful daughter to our family. God has used her in many ways in my life…to humble me, to encourage me and to bless me.
Over the years and through 14 moves God has allowed me to be part of many church families in many differing ministries. The list is so very long it would take pages to write and describe. The spiritual, emotional and physical blessings are incalculable. The relationships formed are invaluable. And God’s ever-present love through it all unfathomable. Through every move, through every new circumstance (pleasant and painful), through every life touched, God has been my sustainer.
9/13/08 – God kept my Daughter, Son-in Law and grandchildren safe during hurricane Ike’s rampage. There were some inconveniences for them but they were taken care of completely.Praise is that John is so very mechanically inclined that he had time to help others keep their generators going as well as his own. John’s work was slowed down to a stand still after the storm but has picked up since then.
11/10/08 – My daughter Holly’s car broke down, but she was not far from where she lives. I am praising God that it broke down now instead of when she makes the 11-12 hour drive home for Christmas. Also praise God most of the repairs are covered under warranty.
10/30/09 – My Dad was buried today. I was able to read Scripture and sing the entire Battle Hymn at his funeral. I know it was God empowering me. It may seem a small thing to many but it was big to me because I know God empowered me to do those things.
11/30/09 – I had major surgery and every pathology report came back clear. NO Cancer!
1/10 – My Mom passed away and I was able to attend her funeral. I would not have been able to attend if she had passed away when the doctors expected her to due to the surgery I had in November. But, God again provided.
2/1/10 – I arrived home safely after spending time with my brother and sister cleaning out my Dad’s house to prepare it for sale. It was a hard time, but God provided everything needed to get the job done and get the house on the market!
7/9/10 – I haven’t posted any praises lately… it is not that there haven’t been things to praise the Lord about but sometimes I forget to write them down. Today I am praising the Lord for a new water heater installed exactly 24 hours after I figured out the old one had stopped working. God is good even in the things we normally take for granted.
God is good all the time!
11/9/2010 – In August my brother, sister and I cleaned out my mom’s house to begin getting it ready for what it will be used for next. My Dad’s house in Birmingham, Alabama sold. In October Bob and I were able to buy a truck. This week our heating system will be replaced and air conditioning will be added for next spring and summer. Dear friends helped me get started on my next house project by giving up their whole day at my house working.
Yes, God is definitely good all the time!
